Again, factual reporting of matters such as climate change and the value of vaccination in protecting against Covid, by major media has been labelled biased by right-wing politicians and right-wing commentators on social media, contributing significantly to growing distrust in traditional media.

I try to "show my working" as our maths teachers would remind us. Media coming under monopoly ownership (NewsCorp & Sinclair) is just as detrimental to a free press as state propaganda (Russia Today & KCNA).

No, I don't think media freedom is at risk. I think that social media and news sites like aldaily.com plus traditional old school media in paper and online present us with a wide range of information. The daily printed newspaper though is an anachronism and will fade away. The Australian online is a bargain...

Call me old-fashioned, Mike, but I do like a good printed newspaper. I often read NZ Herald in a caf. It's a while since I looked at aldaily, but I liked it when first appeared.
