You didn’t mention them being able to approve increases in their own pay? Can Parliament still do that in NZ?

The independent Remuneration Authority 'sets the annual salaries and superannuation subsidy for Members of Parliament (MPs), the accommodation and travel services, and the annuity and travel provisions for former prime ministers.' Recent legislation has tended to limit the potential size of MPs' salary raises, if anything.
