Very interesting. Whatever happens the whole world seems to be at a crossroad. It could just be that the war in Israel marks a fundamental shift in global thinking that acts as a wakeup call for the Western world. A Trump presidency may be part of that. Then perhaps we may see a re-examination of our attitudes towards Islam and the UN.
Robert Reich uses hyperbole to make his case. Either that or he is an unhinged left winger. But essentially you are correct, Trump voters are unhappy with their lot and Trump is their champion. Not a lot of logic there but there’s certainly heaps of emotion. But ask yourself, was Jacndamania logical?
Good point, Max. Almost by definition, mania of any kind is not logical. Whether we idolise or demonise a leader, we should ask ourselves why we do that.
I think that there are a whole lot of voters in the US and here, Oz and the UK (and everywhere) who don’t care all that much about DEI, philosophy, gender, the ToW and so on but see scant reward for their hard work, a lot of bludgers, Maori asking for extra on the basis that they’re Maori, (insert black/indigenous etc), can’t see a doctor, etc - it’s a long list) and someone turns up who offers a simple solution. It’s more gut feeling than a carefully thought through solution. They don’t care about peccadilloes 10 years earlier. Hence Trump, Ardern. Trump has more stamina!
America has the unique factors - in the OECD/G20 at least - of religious fundamentalism, ammosexuality, and the ghosts of the Civil War still haunting the corridors of power.
When a new FDR is needed more than ever, it's become increasingly difficult for one to get back in the White House due to decades of plutocratic corruption of America's institutions. The same effect also rubs off in other advanced nations.
The wheels of anti-trust monopoly-busting are vital to a functioning free market. Otherwise, you basically have a corporate fiefdom run by the Elon Musks & Koch Foundations of this world.

Ardern isn't over yet, I'd guess. She hasn't hit 50. Trump has (at most) four more years.

Plutocratic corruption is right. The wheels will turn though
